Blu-ray Disc
Well known SONY Company and its SONY'S Disk drive division have introduced Blue-Ray disc Technology.
Blu-ray drive supports read, write high-definition video, digital audio and computer data. A single layer DVD can store data upto 4.3 GB whereas a blu-ray single layer disc stores data more than 6 times than a Single layer DVD.
Blu-ray Disc:
• Single-layer Blu-ray disc can hold up to 27 GB of data
• Double-layer Blu-ray disc can store up to 50 GB
• Stores high definition Video and digital Audio
• 36 Mbps data transfer
• Write / Burn 25 GB of data in just over an hour and a half
Blu-ray Disc Drive not only read and writes Blu-ray disc, it also supports read and write for DVDs and CDs.
Alike CD or DVD, Blu-ray disc is about the same thickness 1.2 mm and is physically same as a DVD, but the data storing technology is different.
Blu-ray disc can be used for storing large backups and can take the place of Tape Cartridges which people use earlier for keeping data backup.
As the Blu-ray technology is new in the market obviously it is little expensive but compared to data storing capacity and transfer rate it’s much cheaper than a normal DVD.
